THE PLAN
If you’re someone who cares about our country, it’s been a disillusioning, heartbreaking period. Here’s why this election is about more than saving our democracy; It’s our chance to dream big and write a new chapter in the American story.
OUR KAIROS MOMENT
Rosa Parks refusing to move to the back of the bus was a kairos moment—a moment in history when the light of truth penetrates great darkness and dramatic change occurs, as explained by author Alexia Salvatierra. In that moment, the evil of segregation and the lies that supported it were revealed, and our nation leaped forward toward justice.
We have that opportunity now. This election will hinge on voter turnout, and there’s reason to believe that people who care about democracy will show up to save it.
For many, their kairos moment was when Trump’s followers attacked the Capitol. For others, like me, it was in a private, heartbreaking moment when someone they love revealed they were fully consumed by Trump and Fox News’ hateful lies.
For many others, it was when Roe v. Wade was discarded by a packed, far-right Supreme Court.
AN HISTORIC OPPORTUNITY
This is our chance to turn back Trump’s fascist movement and then, in 2028, finally secure a majority strong enough to enact the kind of transformative change Republicans have been blocking for decades to give tax breaks to their wealthy donors.
Imagine the potential of an America finally investing in our schools, families, healthcare, infrastructure, and environment. To get there, we’ll need to elect democrats who aren’t afraid to act boldly and risk their seats.
2027 & 2028
Whether or not we win both the House and the Senate, we will have to fight with everything we have to obstruct Trump’s authoritarian agenda and win concessions that benefit the working class, like the recent ROAD to Housing Act.
Investigations will be key in establishing the foundation for impeachments of Trump, Hegseth, Justice Thomas, and others.
We’ll also investigate the corrupt deals with Musk, media conglomerates, companies tied to Trump’s family, and more.
Perhaps most importantly, we’ll prepare to launch our own Democracy Sprint to secure and strengthen our democracy and deliver for the American people.
DEMOCRACY SPRINT
History says we have a two-year window after we capture the Presidency, the House, and the Senate before we lose a chamber in the midterms. We can’t waste a minute of that window.
YEAR ONE
2029
Democracy: End gerrymandering, mandate 2-week early voting, automatic voter registration, campaign finance reform, restore Voting Rights Act, statehood for DC and Puerto Rico.
Tax Reform: End Trump tax cuts for the rich, require corporations and wealthy to pay their fair share, restore boosted Child Tax Credit, forgive student loans.
Abortion Rights: Codify Roe v. Wade.
Courts: Create commission to study court expansion and reform.
Climate: Rejoin Paris Climate Agreement. Hearings on Green New Deal.
Health Care: Restore enhanced Obamacare subsidies. Launch commission to study Medicare for All.
YEAR TWO
2030
Guns: Ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, enact universal background checks, mandate safe storage of firearms.
Immigration: Investigate ICE (part of abolishment), fund drug detection tech at border checkpoints, expand capacity to ensure speedy processing of asylum seekers, pathway to citizenship for Dreamers.
Universal Basic Income: Launch national pilot of UBI/Negative Income Tax.
LGBTQ+ Rights: Anti-bullying and anti-discrimination laws, ensure access to gender affirming care, criminalize conversion therapy.
Climate: Pass Green New Deal.
Courts: Expand Supreme Court, term limits, enforceable code of ethics, define “advise and consent” in confirmations, impeach corrupt judges.
This is not an exhaustive list, but key priorities. Along the way, we’ll need to rebuild agencies gutted by Trump and conduct investigations into corrupt deals, illegal pardons, and war crimes.
Key issues for WA-02, such as transportation, healthcare, the fentanyl crisis, climate impacts, and affordability, will be addressed by these bills, as well as other issues.
Americans will be watching to see if we are a country where the rich and powerful can be held accountable and if we can deliver for working families. We’re going to answer with a resounding YES.
